Here is a poem I'd like to return to someday but I'm just not sure where I want to go with it. I based it off a song by the same name by the band Say Hi to your Mom. The song is basically a love song where the two people are having relationship problems but the lyrics suggest that they should talk about anything (spaceships) other then the fact that they are having problems. In my version I was trying to keep the same kind of idea but I was including movie lines, mostly Star Treck, and even some other references (on from Whitman, but I was thinking about the Dead Poets Society at the time). I feel like at some point I can really give this poem justice, but I'm not really sure what it needs. I've add some stuff from my first draft which I think gives it more substance but I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
You can find the song here on Say Hi To Your Mom's myspace, it is currently the forth song on their list.
Let's Talk About Spaceships
let's talk about spaceships,
traveling at millions of miles,
falling in love with kirk.
Captain, my captain,
we have nothing to
cry about,
beam me up scotty.
just anything
but
what the future holds.
lets talk about spaceships,
traveling to the moon,
gathering speed,
escaping the universe.
bravely going where
no man has gone before.
bravely going.
